Repair Pricing Info
The following are ballpark price guidelines to give prospective clients an idea of what to expect to pay for the most common jobs. I do need the instrument on my bench in front of me to properly assess it and price the work.
All work is executed with the highest standard in mind. All setup work comes with one adjustment within a 60 day window.
Acoustic & Electric Fretted Objects
Prices are based on a $100 an hour shop rate.
Minimum Bench Fee... $50
I am often working on multiple instruments at a time. A bench fee covers the time it takes to clear off a bench and properly inspect yours. This fee is credited to the final bill if the instrument is left with me for servicing.
Full Setup… $100-150 plus cost of strings
Instrument is given a thorough assessment. Action is set to suit the player's personal preference. Intonation is adjusted as necessary. Fretboard is cleaned, polished & conditioned. Odds & ends maintenance are dealt with and the instrument is restrung with a fresh set of strings.
Fret Dress & Setup... $250-300
Any loose frets are glued down and the entire board is leveled using a fretwork jig to eliminate any high spots and unnecessary buzzing. The frets are then crowned & polished to a shine. A full setup is included.
Nut Carve… $150-200
For a custom hand carved bone nut. In most instances a setup will be required with a new nut.
Saddle Carve... $150-200
For a custom hand carved & intonated bone saddle. In most instances a setup will be required with a new saddle.
Re-Fret... $500 and up
Price includes a full setup. I use Jescar nickel / silver fretwire which is the industry benchmark. Add $50 for bound fretboards. Add $100 for stainless steel frets. Add $300 for refinishing a maple fretboard.
Dovetail Neck Reset… $600 and up
Includes a new saddle and basic setup work. Fretwork is highly recommended and oftentimes necessary.
Bridge Re-glue... Around $300 for a standard pin bridge. It can be difficult to know how much work I’m in for until I remove the bridge.
Headstock Repair... $200-500+
The amount of labor required to fix a headstock break varies greatly case to case. Reinforcing the break and more involved touch up work to the finish will result in a higher quote.
Other Structural Repair Work... By estimate
Crack repair and other structural repair jobs are all different. The instrument must be inspected in person before an estimate is given.
Electric Guitar Pickup Installation... Starts at $100 Strings and pickguards must be removed. Surprises aren’t uncommon.
Full rewire… Starts at $200 for the classics (Strat, Les Paul etc.) plus cost of parts.
Hollow Body Electronics Surcharge... $50
Acoustic Guitar Pickup Installation... $100 and up
Finish Work… Limited by estimate
